Meet Featured Builder Joe Norkin

"It's truly an honor for me to attend the 2023 David Mann Chopperfest, with the distinction of not only coming in as a featured builder but also a custom builder. Raised in California during the 1960s, I was exposed to iconic motorcycle cultures at an early age, racing dirt bikes and evolving to my love affair with Harley-Davidson,  and the classic custom chopper culture, once I got my driver's license. That said, I never did leave the dirt bike world, as there's no better way to hone your riding skills than to race on dirt motocross tracks against the nation's toughest competitors in the sportsman classes. My passion for this cultural art form has compelled me to build several gorgeous bikes over the years, which I've sold, traded, or ridden until they were morphed into a new build. Unfortunately, some of my bikes were burned and destroyed in the 2018 Camp Fire when I lived in Paradise, CA.

My entry this year is a '50 Panhead Bobber, a shared vision, fabrication, and collaboration between myself and good friend and colleague Will Freeman of Freeman Choppers. This bike was featured in last year's November issue of Cycle Source Magazine. In addition, this build has been blessed with several accolades and awards at numerous big bike shows across the nation over the past year as well.

Having the opportunity to present this build at the 2023 David Mann Chopperfest is icing on the cake, and I'm very excited to be a part of it."-Joe Norkin. Be sure to give Joe a follow on Instagram and visit his booth during the day!

Meet Featured Builder Michael Barragan

Meet #cffeaturedbuilder Michael Barragan
"Michael Barragan was born in Queens, New York. He grew up first in Reseda and then lived in Texas before finally traveling to Los Angeles at 17 to pursue a musical career. He played guitar in Plexi for many years and traveled the country and Europe with his music. Between touring, he always had several builds going for friends... custom cars and bikes built out of his backyard garage in Los Angeles. Eventually, Michael decided to pursue building cars and bikes full-time and officially opened up Evil Spirit Engineering in 2002. He has specialized in vintage American cars and motorcycles, restorations, and full custom builds.

Twenty years later, he continues to create music when he can, and the shop has steadily grown over the years, now located in East Los Angeles. The shop hosts an annual ride up Highway One in California called “Run to the 1”, and Evil Spirit Engineering is very much a family affair. Michael still loves riding choppers and building cars and bikes just as much as he did when he started out in his little garage and is proud to have made a living out of something he enjoys so much." Please visit Michael's booth on February 12th.

Delayed not Denied

As many of you have noticed and have been calling us about, a storm is hitting So Cal this weekend, especially in Ventura, CA, where five different weather apps forecast an inch or more rain between Sat-Sun. With this news, we have made the tough decision to reschedule the event, as we did back in 2018. The rescheduled date will be Sunday, February 12th, 2023. All GA tickets, bike show registrations, and vendor spaces will transfer to the new date. The artists, bike builders, vendors, and sponsors work too hard all year to create great stuff for the show. We can't put on the show in the rain and risk poor attendance for them. We wanted to give you as much notice as possible to adjust your plans. Please help us spread the word so as not to inconvenience anyone. Thank you for understanding, and we hope to see you in February.- Tory

Meet Featured Builder Kiwi Mike

Mike Tomas, aka Kiwi Mike, started his Indian Motorcycle journey in New Zealand performing repairs and fabricating parts for equipment on his father's farm. He got his first Indian at age 17. What sparked his interest in the Indian brand was when a man passed by him on a '41. Mike instantly fell in love with the lines and chased down the rider to learn more about his new dream machine. That interest led Mike to cross the pond in the early 1980s as he headed to America to seek his dream.

In the 1990s, Mike showed up at the Davenport Swap in Iowa with the industry's first illustrated catalog for Indian Motorcycle parts. He's now manufacturing some 1500 different part numbers, and building replica Indian engines made 100% with Kiwi Indian Motorcycle parts. In the vintage motorcycle market, everyone knows that Kiwi Mike is the go-to guy for vintage Indian bikes, parts, and – more importantly – knowledge. Kiwi Indian Motorcycles is located in Riverside, CA. Mike and Carolyn will be choosing a bike for the Ross Kiwi Tomas Award in their son's honor. Ross Kiwi Tomas is in our hearts forever, and we miss him dearly.

Please visit the Kiwi Motorcycles booth during the day to meet Mike and his lovely wife, Carolyn.

He has been Crowned and still raining “King of Builders” of the 2021 JP International Motorcycle Show with his masterpiece “Black Coffee.” Anthony has been featured in several magazines, including EasyRider and Cycle Source, just to name a few. Anthony has continued to run his day job as owner of a Garage Door Company, “American Classic Garage Doors,” for over 20 years, all the while slinging coffee and building masterpieces for Gasoline And Coffee under one roof.

Meet Featured Builder Mike Muller

"We do a lot of work on motorcycles here at OSS in Ventura, mostly bikes of the vintage chopper variety. Over the years, we have gained the experience to get just about any vintage bike back on the road. We are also endowed with the ability to weld, so customization is no problem. Since our shop is relatively small, we can work closely with our customers to give them the results they seek. So just allow us to do the dirty work so you can get your knees back in the breeze.
Growing up in southern California, we pursued unusual methods of self-expression. Tumbling around in the surf looking for that perfect wave or slicing up the windy roads on our oil-soaked motorcycles. Since then, our paths have led us to become a variety of tradesmen. OSS uses the trades we learned to explore many facets of creativity.

Using the combined skill and knowledge of local artisans, craftsmen, and speed freaks to create works of form and function, we present to you OLIVE ST. SPECIALS." Mike Muller

Please swing by Olive St. Special's booth during the show and speak to Mike about your moto needs! The OSS booth is located on Main Street by the bike show.
