Meet Featured Builder Joe Norkin

"It's truly an honor for me to attend the 2023 David Mann Chopperfest, with the distinction of not only coming in as a featured builder but also a custom builder. Raised in California during the 1960s, I was exposed to iconic motorcycle cultures at an early age, racing dirt bikes and evolving to my love affair with Harley-Davidson,  and the classic custom chopper culture, once I got my driver's license. That said, I never did leave the dirt bike world, as there's no better way to hone your riding skills than to race on dirt motocross tracks against the nation's toughest competitors in the sportsman classes. My passion for this cultural art form has compelled me to build several gorgeous bikes over the years, which I've sold, traded, or ridden until they were morphed into a new build. Unfortunately, some of my bikes were burned and destroyed in the 2018 Camp Fire when I lived in Paradise, CA. 

My entry this year is a '50 Panhead Bobber, a shared vision, fabrication, and collaboration between myself and good friend and colleague Will Freeman of Freeman Choppers. This bike was featured in last year's November issue of Cycle Source Magazine. In addition, this build has been blessed with several accolades and awards at numerous big bike shows across the nation over the past year as well.

Ever since I can remember motorcycles have been a part of my life from David Mann's ghost rider tapestry on the wall & my dad's shovelhead in the yard, to drooling over old paper CyCle Traders. Finally, in 2019 I committed to following my dream full time. Since then I've built three ground up top level *Suspension having Customs* & added my touch to many others. I pride myself on being original & unique & performing as much of the build myself from Paint 2 Power. You can always count on my bikes to have suspension & be as low as possible !!

The show will feature a very special David Mann and Friends Art Show with tons of original and tribute art on display and for sale. The "If You Build It They Will Come" all brand antique and custom motorcycle show features over 20 classes with something for every motorcycle enthusiast. There will be hundreds of motorcycle culture vendors as well as a new and used parts swap meet, world class bike builders showcasing their latest builds, Rock and Blues Bands. He would work with the organizers making sure things would go smoothly and if he were alive today he would have his own bike build in the show. The organizers Dave and Tory honor Ross with a special award every year. Majik Mike (Mike Rabideau) was the winner of the Ross Tomas memorial award with his very fine Knucklehead. Congratulations Mike on a very fine build and being a very nice guy."

Our goal for the Chopper Fest has always been to create a platform for artists and builders to showcase their talents while inspiring future generations. The art and bike show had so much talent, and the love for Dave Mann was evident with all the tribute art on display. This year's event was met with some challenges, we had some tough decisions to make, and I personally want to thank everyone who lightened the load weighing on my mind with their positive, upbeat attitudes despite the weather.
